Advisor Relationships and Compensation

Understand the relationship.

Know who is advising you, which organizations provide your products, and how the people involved are paid.

About this disclosure

Paradigm Shift Financial Inc. is a practice with multiple advisors. This page provides a general overview of relationships and compensation. An advisor's licence, authorized services, jurisdictions, product access, and business relationships may differ from those of another advisor. This overview supplements the advisor-specific disclosures and product documents that apply to your relationship; it does not replace them or a required client acknowledgment.

Your advisor and available services

Ask your advisor to explain their legal name, qualifications, current licences or registrations, the provinces in which they are authorized to provide the proposed service, and the organization through which that service is offered. Services are subject to the individual advisor's authorization and the relevant provider's requirements. A reference to insurance or investment services on this website does not mean that every advisor is licensed to offer every product in every province.

Product providers and business relationships

All advisors at Paradigm Shift Financial access insurance products through PPI, our managing general agency. The insurer named in your policy is the product provider. Available products depend on the advisor’s licences and insurer appointments, your needs, and the insurer’s requirements. Your advisor should identify the insurer involved in a recommendation and disclose any relevant ownership interest or other business relationship. Access to a range of products does not mean access to every product in the market.

How compensation may work

When you purchase a product, the insurer or other applicable provider may pay a sales commission. Renewal, service, or ongoing compensation may also be paid while a policy or account remains in force. Depending on the arrangement, an advisor may be eligible for additional compensation or benefits, including bonuses, incentives, or conferences. A referral arrangement may also involve a fee. The compensation that applies to your transaction, including any referral arrangement, should be explained before you proceed. Product and account costs are described in the relevant provider documents.

Fees and the scope of service

Before agreeing to a service, ask whether there is a charge for the initial meeting, financial planning, ongoing advice, or other work. Ask which costs are paid directly by you, which are included in a product or account, and which compensation is paid by a provider. Clarify ongoing charges, cancellation or withdrawal costs, and what service is included. This website does not promise a free consultation, a particular fee schedule, or a commission-free arrangement.

Conflicts of interest and outside activities

Compensation, ownership interests, referrals, and outside business activities can create actual or potential conflicts of interest. Your advisor is responsible for identifying and addressing conflicts in accordance with the rules that apply to their services and for providing the relevant disclosure. Ask how a conflict affects a recommendation and how it is addressed. A conflict that is specific to one advisor is not automatically a relationship or activity of the practice or its other advisors.

Information to receive before you decide

Ask for your advisor's current written disclosure, the names of the organizations involved, the compensation and costs that apply, and the product information needed to understand the recommendation. Your advisor should explain the scope of the engagement, relevant limitations and risks, and any required consent or acknowledgment. Keep copies for your records. Reading this page does not constitute a signed acknowledgment or agreement to purchase a product.
